Union Grove
Union Grove road race was a lot of fun even though my results were the pits. Neil had scoped out the course for the team and reported a big ring race course except for a short hill on the back side. What he neglected to report was that the finish hill though a big ring does take a big effort at race speed. On each lap the field really attacks this hill and there really isn’t any relief for quite aways after the S/F.
The good news was our whole active team of seven 50+ riders were in the race – everyone (me, Dave, Neil, Kevin, Steve, Julius, and even Denny) except Peter. Great fun to see this many MLC jerseys in a master’s race.
We placed 8,9,10 and 18,19. I finished off the back of the field. I lost touch just before the S/F with 2 to go. Then, almost caught twice on that lap (long descent after the S/F and on the backside) but the wind came up during the race and got me when course direction was into the wind.
Here is a picture of me during the race. The photo was taken by Greg Devitry
This was my first race with my Powertap wheel so I have started collecting analytical power data.
