According to many internet references the phrase was General “Vinegar Joe” Stilwell’s motto during World War II and was further popularized by Senator Barry Goldwater in the 60’s. If you look around, you’ll see it posted around the bosses office or somewhere around Mahogany Row.
Here is one way to look at it… it’s one of those sayings you’ll want to remember next time you have to kick and scratch just to get the service you pay for and deserve. And if you can’t seem to get what you’re paying for – then be the bastard and don’t give up!
