Alcohol Protects Against Head Injury
According to a report from the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine low to moderate amounts of alcohol can reduce the probability
of death from blunt force trauma. Really! I’m not making this up Here is the link.
However, one question I didn’t really see answered was whether the
researchers factored in the fact that alcohol use was the reason the
guy ended up in the ER in first place.
Let’s consider the implications of this information. I’m certain you can think of some good ones.
For those who won’t read the the page at the link checkout this quote
and again I’m not making this stuff up (but wait until Letterman gets a
hold of it)
“What our study implies is that there may be a role for an
alcohol-based resuscitation fluid in improving outcomes in adequately
resuscitated patients with severe head injury.”
So what is an “alcohol-based resuscitation fluid”?
Maybe the ER will offer some on tap.
