Are we wired for daydreaming?

Scientific American is reporting on a study that asserts human brains are wired for daydreaming. While might seem to illicit a “dah” of course, reaction from you at first; the study’s defnition of daydreaming really has more to do with multi-tasking.

Everyone has had tasks that are extremely repetitive and don’t seem to require our full attention. When faced with such tasks, our brain moves on to other things ala “daydreaming”.

The research is reporting that our brains are actually “wired” to accomplish these feats. Consider the importance of this kind of research for a task like driving a car to work. Wow, ever driven away down the road and then not remember specifically that section of road. How about missing a exit because you were thinking of something else?

This research I suppose could lead a good understanding of why this happens and perhaps ways to combat it in dangerous situations!
