Tom Tom Never Warned You
All is not rosy with satellite navigation systems in the UK. As reported in the Metro this past Sunday, drivers are paying too much attention to their satnav systems and not enough to road ahead. In Exton (near Winchester in Hampshire) authorities have decided to warn drivers of the danger! Specifically, it seems
The lane (ed. near Exton) is 6ft wide at its narrowest point. Vehicles are getting stuck and having to reverse back up, damaging the wall and fence. When I ask drivers why they are using the lane they say they are just following sat nav.’
So, next time Tom Tom says take that little short cut check for a yellow sign, at least if you are in Exton.
An Update 2/23/2007:
It isn’t often that Tim O’Reilly and I blog on EXACTLY the same topic! Mostly, I’m getting information from his great O’Reilly Radar blog. But today we both caught this story on the road signs in Exton. Neat.
